Asbestos Abatement Certification and Licensing Requirements

Asbestos Abatement Certification and Licensing Requirements

WorkSafeBC is implementing mandatory training and licensing for asbestos abatement work to help keep workers safe from the danger of asbestos. As of January 1, 2024, employers without an asbestos licence will be unable to legally operate as asbestos abatement contractors, and uncertified workers will not be able to perform any asbestos abatement work in relation to a building.

Employers need to understand the requirements for doing asbestos work and must apply for a licence online. Workers need to get training from an approved provider to ensure they're certified.

Visit WorkSafeBC's Asbestos training, certification & licensing webpages to learn more about these requirements, or call their Prevention Information Line at 1.888.621.7233.
